Dental implants

Implants planned from a 3D scan.

Before we place an implant, we look at your bone, nerves and neighboring teeth in three dimensions and plan exactly where it will go.

Plan first, like building a house

If you've ever built or remodeled a house, you know the work is in the planning: the foundation, what holds it up, what's next door. Replacing a tooth is the same. The implant has to sit in solid bone, clear of nerves and the sinus, and line up with the tooth that will go on top of it.

How it works

  • A 3D x-ray. Our 3D scanner (CBCT) shows the bone, the nerve and the neighboring teeth in three dimensions. It can also show why a failing tooth failed.
  • A plan on screen. We choose the implant's size, position and angle where the bone is strongest and where the new tooth will look and work best.
  • Immediate or delayed. The scan also helps decide whether the implant can go in the same day the tooth comes out, or whether the area should heal for about four months first.

What that means for you

A planned implant is a more predictable implant. Surgery is usually about an hour, and the tooth that goes on top fits the way it was planned. If you need a bone graft, we know before the day of surgery, not during it.

3D scans are included in the Sound Dental Plan.
